Invest in our next community share offer

Help bring solar power to the places that need it most

What is a community share offer?

A community share offer is a way for everyday people - like you and your neighbours - to put your money into local projects that benefit Kent.

You become a co-owner of clean, locally-owned renewable energy on buildings that serve the community. You have a say in Kent Community Energy whilst growing your money and making a difference. We will only offer this every year or two, so it’s a rare opportunity to make a difference as part of something special.

How does it work?

  • Instead of putting your money in a savings account, you grow your money whilst making an impact right here in Kent
  • Your voice influences how we invest our funds for future local renewable projects
  • Your money stays in the community, putting solar panels on the rooftops of organisations serving the community across Kent
  • You buy a stake and become a co-owner of Kent Community Energy. It’s one member, one vote, no matter how much money you invest

Share offer in numbers

  • Invest as little as £100 or as much as you can afford
  • Our most recent offer opened in August 2025 and closed on 30 November 2025
  • Our initial target was £400,000 and we reached that milestone on 16 October
  • We eventually raised £594,000!
  • All the money raised will go towards bringing solar power to Kent organisations — from a dementia care centre to a youth college and a mental health charity. All of them are rooted in their communities, supporting those who need it most.

Together, we’ll help them cut energy bills by 25% and put money back into care, education, and local services.

What your investment does

When you invest in KCE, your money stays local and works harder - for you, for your community, for Kent and for our planet. You’ll help:

  • Empower people
  • Power critical local facilities such as care centres, schools, charities and more, saving them 25% on their energy bills and freeing their funds for vital work
  • Create jobs in Kent and community wealth
  • Reduce energy poverty and increase energy availability for those who need it most

Protect our land and planet:

  • Protect Kent’s natural beauty and biodiversity
  • Cut carbon emissions and fight climate change in one of the UK’s most climate-vulnerable counties
  • Reduce energy poverty and availability

Share prosperity

  • Grow your money while doing good
  • The more community energy we build, the more money we give to local community groups.

This is more than an investment, it’s a commitment to transforming Kent for the better.

“We’ve already returned over £36,000 to local groups. By 2027, that’ll be £80,000 a year – all staying in Kent.”

KCE board

“We want to engage with anyone who wants to help us decarbonise Kent,” says KCE Director, Dan Watkins.

“Our shareholder members receive a fair return on their investment and are part of a thriving community energy company” says ex-KCE Chair John Partington.

Three key differences in investing in Community Benefit Society compared with other kinds of shares:

  • Shareholder members are paid yearly interest on the value of those shares

  • Shareholder members can only sell their shares back to the society

  • It’s one member one vote - it doesn’t matter how much you’ve paid in because all members get an equal say in how the society’s money is spent on local renewable energy and sustainability projects.

“It's also about shared values,” says Watkins..
